Xinglin Lecture Series No. 154 - Pharmacy Chapter : Metabolic Characteristics and Intervention of Chronic Metabolic Diseases

Author: Date: 2024-11-18

Title: Metabolic Characteristics and Intervention of Chronic Metabolic Diseases

Date: November 25, 2024, from 13:30 to 15:30 PM

Location: Zhizhen Building 404 Smart Classroom, Ningbo University Health Science Center

Speaker: Xie Cen

Biography:

Xie Cen is the Director and Researcher of the Metabolic Diseases Research Center at the Shanghai Institute of Materia Medica, Chinese Academy of Sciences. He leads a research group in the National Key Laboratory for Original Drug Research. Recognized as a national talent, Dr. Xie's primary focus is on tissue-organ interactions and regulatory functions. His significant contributions include uncovering molecular mechanisms by which various metabolites such as bile acids, short-chain fatty acids, and ceramides participate in disease progression. Dr. Xie has proposed therapeutic concepts centered around the "liver-gut axis" for treating liver diseases through intestinal interventions and vice versa. Based on these insights, he has identified several new therapeutic targets and candidate drugs for metabolic diseases. In recent years, Dr. Xie has published over 40 research papers as corresponding or first author in journals such as Nature Medicine, Cell Stem Cell, Cell Metabolism, and Nature Communications. He holds four Chinese patents and two international patents. Dr. Xie has been the principal investigator of numerous funded projects, including major programs from the National Natural Science Foundation of China, key research and development plans from the Ministry of Science and Technology, and topics under the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Pioneer B Program.
