On October 26th, the 14th Zhejiang Provincial College Students' Medical Technology and Skills Competition in Basic Medical Sciences concluded at Taizhou College. The competition saw participation from over 160 medical students across 33 teams representing 10 universities in the province. Ningbo University Health Science Center, guided by teachers Mei Dixson and Li Liping, Jin Xiaofeng and Ye Meng, Chen Yiyong and Lin Rong, fielded three teams which achieved impressive results with one silver and two bronze medals.

The competition consisted of three modules: theoretical knowledge assessment, practical skills assessment, and a report defense on experimental design in medicine. The theoretical knowledge assessment involved randomized questions from core basic medicine courses such as anatomy, microbiology, immunology, biochemistry, pathology, physiology, and pharmacology drawn from the Chinese Medical Education Question Bank; the practical skills assessment included stations for systemic anatomy and pathology skills, microbiology and molecular medicine skills, and functional experimental skills, with team members being randomly selected for evaluation on the day of the competition; the report defense on experimental design tested the students’ research abilities and accumulation, experimental design thinking, originality, as well as their presentation and team demonstration skills.

This competition served as a comprehensive evaluation for the participating students, covering theoretical knowledge, experimental skills, and research practice and presentation capabilities. Through the discipline competition model of "promoting education through competition, promoting learning through competition, and integrating learning with competition," it aims to foster outstanding medical talents. It also provided a practical training opportunity for the faculty of the Basic Medical College, accumulating valuable experience to elevate the standard of basic medical education.
